Waiv publishes BRCAura performance on Aigora’s external validation cohort

The study published in npj Precision Oncology validates an AI model predicting germline BRCA1/2 status from WSIs.

MUNICH, Germany – Waiv (formerly Owkin Dx) has published the results of a multicentre external validation study of BRCAura in npj Precision Oncology. BRCAura is an AI model that predicts germline BRCA1/2 mutation status from routine H&E-stained breast cancer whole slide images (WSIs). Aigora curated and provided the study’s biopsy validation cohort, one of six external validation cohorts.

Germline BRCA1/2 mutations are among the most actionable findings in hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative early-stage breast cancer. Yet testing based on clinical and family-history criteria misses many carriers. BRCAura is designed as a pre-screening step that rules out patients unlikely to carry a mutation, so that genetic testing can be focused where it matters most.

Across all six validation cohorts, BRCAura maintained a sensitivity above 93% while ruling out around a third of patients. Aigora’s cohort comprised 230 preoperative biopsies with confirmed germline BRCA1/2 status. On this cohort, BRCAura achieved an AUROC of 0.82, consistent with the 0.81 observed across the five surgical resection cohorts.
